Onwards Build

Roof Rack

Before diving into our tent build, we knew we needed a sturdy rack to support it. Living in the city, height restrictions were a concern, so we opted for a custom rack that would sit over the tailgate while still allowing access. With welding gear and wiring tools in hand, we set to work ensuring the rack was not only strong but also ready for lights when the time came. It was the first step in creating our ultimate outdoor setup, combining functionality with city living seamlessly.

Tailgate kitchen

With our tent perfectly mounted on the truck, enjoying the great outdoors had never been easier. There were times when we found ourselves at sites just for the night before packing up again, eager to explore more. While we love cooking outdoors, we quickly realized it came with a lot of extra gear—camping stoves, cutting boards, utensils, and more.

To streamline our setup and add a touch of convenience, we decided to craft a pull-out kitchen drawer. This turned out to be the perfect solution. Our DIY creation is designed to maximize space on the tailgate, allowing us to keep room for other necessities while ensuring we have everything we need for cooking.

The pull-out kitchen is complete with a stove, ample storage, a cutting board, and even a sink. It slides out smoothly, transforming our tailgate into a fully functional kitchen.

Custom Roof Top Tent

We were fortunate to stumble upon the canvas of a rooftop tent online. When the canvas arrived, we had a general idea of the measurements—we knew what the tent needed to do, even if we weren’t entirely sure how to do it.

The first step was welding the frame. We knew it had to be designed to fold into itself. Once we had the frame functional, we shifted our focus to the casing of the tent. The base is made from sturdy plywood, providing a solid foundation, while the lid is crafted from fully customized fiberglass, ensuring both durability and a sleek look.

A lot of effort went into this project to make it both fun and functional. From the initial design to the final touches, each step was a valuable learning experience. If you're considering a similar project, feel free to reach out to us with any questions! We’d love to  help you go Onwards.
